Freaked Out Friday

Hey kitties, Dante here!! I wanted to tell you about the commotion at our house last night. I think I caused it, but I really didn't mean to. You see, Mommy had already gone to bed and Daddy was getting ready to go to bed too. Well, every night before bed I jump up on the counter and demand Daddy's attention while he takes some medication the human V-E-T says he has to take everyday. Well, last night I was on the floor and although I heard Daddy's pill hit the floor, I was more interested in the treat I found next to the pill on the floor. No sooner had I nom-nom-nomed the treat, when I heard Daddy freak out and grab up the phone and call Aunt Susan. I wondered why he was calling Aunt Susan at 11pm but hey, as Fagin would say, beans is weird! Anyway, I was waiting for Daddy to carry me to bed with him like he does every night when I heard Daddy say, "I think he ate the pill Susan! What do I do? Will Atenolol hurt him?" That treat was a pill? It did not smell or taste like the pills Daddy takes. Anyway, Daddy got off the phone with Aunt Susan, called someone called "Poison Control," and then called Aunt Susan back. While he was on the phone with her, I found the pill he dropped and whapped it over to him, so he could take it and we could go to bed. He seemed happy about that. He told Aunt Susan he had found the pill, took it, and then hugged and loved all over me. Hey, if pretending I ate a pill and then finding for Daddy makes him that happy, maybe I should do it more often!!

So the morals of the story are: Aunt Susan was right and no way a cat ate a pill on his own, Daddy needs to be more careful taking pills, the ASPCA animal poison control number costs $60 per call and Mommy thinks that is too high and that many kitty's and woofie's beans cannot afford that with the economy the way it is so they will not call and get help, and finally if poison control ever tells you to make your cat vomit by giving it hydrogen peroxide - do not do it! Aunt Susan says it rarely works for inducing vomitting for cats (works wonders for woofies though) and will do nothing but make the cat foam at the mouth!!

Dante scared Daddy badly last night but we are happy to announce that everyone is fine and no longer freaking out!! So in honour of Dante:

Happy Friday Everyone!!

We were holding onto to each word hoping that Dante (smart Dante!) did not take the pill that had fallen on the floor and boy were we relieved to know that he had NOT! OF course Dante is too smart to fall for medication anyways! Way to go Dante and then to show him where his pill was can I say HIGH PAW?! We had no idea that there was a charge...a charge???... for the ASPCA poision control...wowie $60 is way way way too much. Thank you for telling us this we will make sure Momma and Daddy knows. And on the morning we learned about losing Tiki we are glad that Dante is OK!

Whew...although when you think about it, Aunt Susan is pretty smart. How many of us willingly scarf down a pill???
I am glad you are OK tho - I bet you did give Daddy a big scare!

Oh my sweet Dante,
Don't give me such a scare! I was so worried for a moment there. I'm glad that you were too smart to nom that pill, but please do be careful.

$60 seems awfully expensive for a phone call, though I'm sure Mommy would pay first and worry about the money later.

Dante, Don't ever scare your dad like that again. (Jan made us say that. We think it's funny. Except for the $60 for a phone call part.)

That was scary! My mom has dropped a pill before and I have seen her on all fours searching for it before I found it. Luckily for both of us, she has always found it!

That was supposed to be me, Tybalt.

Shame on mommy for trying to steal my blogging time! Get back on facebook for that, mommy!

Mama takes her atenolol in the morning and she's dropped it and freaked out before, too, because she doesn't want us to swallow meds meant for a grown up bean. Poison control makes her mad, too. You have to pay them before they'll even talk to you. Grrrr. We're so glad that you didn't eat the pill, Dante. But we are secretly glad to know that other kitties freak out their moms and dads as much as we do, hee hee

You have to PAY to call poison control? That is a way to get people to NOT use their services. Sheesh.

Holey Moley what a story!!!
I think that is very funny causing so much commotion, but Momma was all tighted up!! hehe
And I can not believe that your poison hotline would cost anything let alone $60... wtf is wrong with the States?!?!?
That sort of ^&%$^ should be free.. wowie are we glad that we do not live there :(

I take atenolol too and it is yucky. Dante, you were smart not to eat it. Mommy used to ruin perfectly good cheese with it until I told her I would rather use the pill shooter. I think you should get more treats for not eating the pill.

That is one happy ending to a very scarey story. Our mom had no idea it costs green papers to call that emergency number!
